Eric Nelson and Curt Meyers over at Powerlines Productions have been on every single Maverick's swell since like the beginning of time.

They were on hand this year to catch Opening Day, Wednesday, October 10th, at California's best big wave. It was a little wobbly, to be sure, and not quite death-defying Mav's, but it was breaking on the bowl, there were some clean-up sets, and a few people were able to get an early notch in.
